What
is Feng Shui? |
Traditional Feng Shui is an ancient
Chinese tradition that dates back thousands of years – some
say as far back as 5,000 B.C. Only well educated scholars
were allowed to study its principles and only those of
an elite social standing could practice its traditions.
|
The literal translation of Feng Shui
(pronounced Fung Shway) is wind and water. Feng Shui
emphasizes flow and containment of energy, life force
or Qi in our environment – its
aim is to keep the good energy flowing, but contained,
while deflecting the harmful energy, thereby creating
harmonious living conditions.
|
The study
of Feng Shui is man’s interaction with Earth and
the Heavens and the interconnectedness of all three.
Feng Shui principles are, therefore, deeply rooted in
the observation of nature and the relationship between
people and the environment. It comprises many applications,
including building orientation, the timing of construction
and the relationship between buildings and its occupants.
|
Feng Shui provides another method to
deal with our life issues - it is a catalyst for us to
take control and responsibility for our lives and well
being. The principles of Feng Shui can be used to analyze
our spaces and apply remedies and cures to improve and
direct the flow of Qi.
